An aromatic white variety known as Alvarinho in Portugal & Albariño in Spain, where it is grown in the wet north west region of Galicia. Wines possess distinctive aromatic, peachy characteristics, similar to Viognier. Also similar to White Traminer, the white form of Gewürztraminer. Berries have a thick skin & are reported to be very rain resistant. May be well suited to wetter wine-growing regions of NZ. Called Spain's great gift to the wine world by noted critic Robert Parker.

Young vines with very loose open clusters, small berries and vigorous growth.
Berries have a thick skin and are able to withstand wet conditions - high tolerance to Botrytis and other bunch rots.
Aromatic with lime, Cape Gooseberry, muscat and quince flavours - will make lovely aromatic wines with crisp acidity.
