Fine French black grape variety, much used in Bordeaux blends with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It is distinguishable from Cabernet Sauvignon by its less dramatically indented leaves, but the two varieties share many characteristics. Cabernet Franc is well suited to cool inland climates; buds and matures more than a week earlier than Cabernet Sauvignon. It is susceptible to coulure, but easier to ripen fully and much less susceptible to poor weather during harvest. Lighter in colour and tannins than Cabernet Sauvignon.
Budburst - Mid-season, Harvest - Mid-season
