One of the oldest and most widely planted white grape varieties: produces very good sweet wines, dry wines tend to finish with a distinctive bitterness. Budburst similar to Chardonnay, matures about 2 weeks later. Very intense and characteristic musky flavours.

Vigorous, medium production with loose open clusters and large yellow berries and high sugar content.
Good disease tolerance.
Excellent, clean, intense, vibrant muscat flavours and aromas.

A Chasselas and Muscat de Saummur cross that has gained popularity because of its early ripening (up to 2 weeks earlier than Muscat à petits grains blancs). The wines lack the colour and intensity of Muscat à petits grains. Often used to produce botrytised wines.
