A black grape variety of Piedmont (north west Italy) where it makes the great long-lived wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. Wines are deep coloured, high in tannins and acidity in youth; ageing produces complex and seductively scented wines. Late ripening, requires most favourable sites, and fussy about soils. in Italy, the best wines are produced on hillside slopes with calcareous soils.

Medium production, loose bunches and late developing.
Nebbiolo has 6 distinctive sub-varieties: the 230 is a clone from the Lampia sub-variety and is described as medium vigour, high yield and large clusters. Wine quality is very good and suitable for long ageing. Wines are intensely perfumed with a violet note, good levels of anthocynanins and restrained acidity.
