Grafted Grapevines
Riversun provides superior grafted grapevines to New Zealand's top vineyards and wineries. We believe excellent wine starts with excellent vines, and we're devoted to helping grapegrowers develop the best possible vineyards. That's why Riversun has literally scoured the world to access the best source material - our import selections include classic varieties and clones, plus alternative varieties that are new to New Zealand.
Our vines
Riversun currently offers three selections of certified grafted grapevines. Our viticultural and scientific staff can help you choose the planting material most suited to your vineyard plan.
Riversun Premium Mass Selection - propagation material mass-selected from superior commercial vineyards.
Riversun Premium Plus Selection - positively selected for multiplication from premium commercial vineyards or from Riversun's own germplasm blocks.
Riversun Premium Import Selection - new and classic varieties and clones sourced from around the world through our importation programme.
Our imported selections
Material sourced from overseas suppliers selected by Riversun won't be found at other New Zealand nurseries. We're proud to offer superior clonal stock from recognised international agencies - including our licensed partner ENTAV-INRA®.
HIGH-HEALTH PLANTS
Throughout our evolution, the nursery's goal has remained constant: to provide plant material that is true to type, of high health and known virus status, and produced to exacting physical specifications.
Riversun's vines are grafted to the New Zealand Winegrowers Grafted Grapevine Standard, developed by New Zealand Winegrowers in consultation with viticulture nurseries. Full details of the specifications and other requirements of the standard can be viewed on the New Zealand Winegrowers website (www.nzwine.com).
CERTIFIED PRODUCTION METHODS
Riversun Nursery was the first viticulture nursery in New Zealand to implement certified production methods to cover all aspects of the production of dormant grafted grapevines. We use the HACCP protocol (Hazards Analysis of Critical Control Points) in our propagation and production of certified planting material. To confirm compliance, our operating procedures are independently audited by SGS (Société General Surveillance) - an accredited international auditing body based in Switzerland.
