St Laurent

Grown in Lower Austria and thought to be related to Pinot Noir. Early budburst and ripening make it suitable for cooler areas, provided spring frosts can be avoided. Capable of producing deep coloured and velvety reds, provided yields are controlled. Thicker grape skins help ward off rot, although coulure can be a problem. Merits oak and bottle ageing, can be successfully blended with Cabernet Sauvignon.

Budburst - early , Harvest - early
