Disease Resistant Varieties

Riversun is at the forefront of introducing disease resistant grapevine varieties to New Zealand’s evolving wine industry. Through established relationships with leading international breeders, we are importing and propagating material developed to offer natural resistance to downy and powdery mildew.

Our Tiaki collection gives growers the opportunity to significantly reduce chemical inputs while enhancing vineyard resilience and long-term sustainability outcomes. “Tiaki” is a Māori kupu meaning to care for, protect, guard, and conserve. It reflects the concept of kaitiakitanga—guardianship of our people, our place, and our environment for generations to come.

We believe disease resistant varieties embody this principle, enabling a more responsible approach to viticulture through reduced reliance on chemical sprays and a lighter environmental footprint.

By combining global innovation with local expertise, Riversun is expanding access to next-generation grapevine varieties, supporting our growers with resilient planting material suited to a more sustainable future.

Please see brochure for all of our current imports and when these will be released.

This is the first release of our Tiaki collection, future releases to include additional white varieties, red varieties and rootstocks.
